Children at SDR Churches
All children’s work is led by leaders who are DBS checked and follow our Safeguarding policy. Click here for more information. We welcome all children, regardless of needs or background and aim to support parents in bringing up their children to know and love Jesus.
We love to welcome children of all ages to our Benefice. We know there are challenges bringing little ones along, but they are always welcome. We have Creche facilities at Stanton by Dale and Risley (where you can still hear the service too), and a selection of toys at Dale Abbey.

Each week there is an interactive Bible story, craft and plenty of time for children to enjoy playing and meeting new friends.
JAM Club
JAM Club meets every Sunday (apart from the 1st Sunday of the month when we have an all-age service) at both Stanton-by-Dale and Risley churches during the services there, and is for Primary School aged children. Each week includes Bible stories taught in an age-appropriate way, with games and crafts to complement. The children have a great time!
Risley Lower Grammar Church of England (VC) Primary School
We are privileged to enjoy strong links with our local Primary School, Risley Lower Grammar, where the Rector or Curate leads Collective Worship once a week. We also run a Quest club for Infant and Junior children in the lead up to both Christmas and Easter, and run ‘Experience Easter’ and ‘Experience Christmas’ alternatively each year. A number from our church family are also involved in serving on the School’s Governing Body. If you would like more information about the school, click here to visit the school website.

Groups at SDR Churches
Home Groups
Each week we have a number of ‘Home Groups’ running across our three locations. They provide an opportunity to get together midweek to enjoy each other’s company, support and encourage one another; but most importantly, spend some time learning from the Bible and praying together. We currently have Home Groups in Ilkeston, Stanton by Dale, Risley, and Dale Abbey. We have daytime groups or evening groups. We also have women’s only groups.
Home Groups are a great place to be to get to know people and a wonderful way to grow in your faith. You can be certain of a warm welcome and some of the best tea and cakes in Derbyshire! However, Home Groups are not there as a replacement for church, and so we encourage people to join our church first before we link you with a group.
Tea and Company
Tea and Company is our twice monthly group for any who would appreciate a warm welcome, great conversation and delicious refreshments! Occasionally there are visiting speakers, and there is always a thought from the Bible shared from the front at Easter and Christmas.
Tea and Company meets once a month, on the 1st Wednesday of the month at the Old School in Stanton-by-Dale (2:30-4:00pm), and once a month at ‘The Gateway’ in Dale Abbey on the 3rd Friday of the month (3:30-5pm). You would be very welcome!

Through the year our Ladies Book Group meets to discuss different Christian books and how they apply to our lives. It is a great place for friendship, fellowship and encouragement. There are tasty refreshments and the group is highly recommended!
Men’s Ministry
We have a men’s breakfast that happens roughly every quarter in the year, where we enjoy a hearty breakfast together, pray and think about God’s Word. Linked to that we also support and visit the Midlands Men’s Convention each November.
